Watch the October 23rd broadcast of Prime News
Here at the Fifth Column Network, we celebrate the global majority and one of those segments is women. And while yes, it is Fall 2017, and that means Halloween and the holiday season is creeping up on us, there’s another reason to celebrate. The magazine, Ms., is celebrating its 45th anniversary. And guess who’s gracing the cover? Wonder Woman.
For those who may be unfamiliar, Ms. is a magazine started by feminists in the 70’s using the iconic abbreviation “Ms.” as its title.
Ms. was a huge thing – as women now had a new way to be addressed outside of Miss – which designated being an unmarried women…and Mrs. – which we all know designates being married. Ms. was finally an equivalent to the Mr….which don’t tell you a daggone thing about a man’s marital status. #unequal
Personally, I don’t mind the title “Miss” being used in social contexts. You want to send me an invitation to your wedding or dinner party? Sure, ya’ll can call me Miss Trezanay. But when I recieve professional correspondence with a “Miss” in it – it drives me bonkers. My marital status ain’t got a darn thing to do with why you need to do what I said you need you to do for my client, okay?
